Our First Day of School 2026
The 2026 school year has begun, and the energy on campus is contagious. After a month at home with their families, our Hawega girls returned to Silverleaf Academy with fresh uniforms, new notebooks, and renewed excitement for the year ahead!
This semester also begins with a milestone we are deeply proud to share: five new students joined the Hawega program, each from families who chose education over FGM. These decisions are not small. They are acts of courage and protection, and they represent the heart of why Hawega exists.
Before the semester began, our team in Tanzania welcomed these new students and took them shopping for essentials including toiletries, personal care items, and other basics they'll need on campus. It's a small detail, but one that reinforces a simple truth: when a girl feels safe, cared for, and dignified, she is ready to learn.
As our students settled into their classrooms, sharpening pencils, opening new textbooks, and greeting familiar teachers, we are reminded of how extraordinary this journey has become. What started with five girls has now grown to thirty five girls actively enrolled, all of them protected through education and empowered to dream bigger.
We cannot wait to share updates, stories, and academic progress throughout the coming months. The future feels very bright here, and it's only Day One.
