The Hawega Foundation is proud of our partnership with Silverleaf Academy in Arusha. We share the same philosophy that education should be accessible, affordable, and in a supportive environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The holistic curriculum is designed to develop entrepreneurs and change makers of the future.

holistic approach
The school takes a holistic approach to education, emphasizing not only academic excellence but also character development, leadership skills, and community service. Students are encouraged to develop their passions and interests and become well-rounded individuals. We believe this offers every girl the opportunity to become a leader.
state-of-the-art facilities
The school has state-of-the-art facilities designed to support student learning and development. The facilities include modern classrooms, science and computer labs, a library, a sports field, and a swimming pool, among other amenities. Our students enjoy boarding on campus as it is a four-hour drive from the village.

commitment to diversity
Silverleaf Academy is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion. The school welcomes students from all backgrounds and strives to create an inclusive community where everyone feels valued and respected.
A full sponsorship of
one of our students at Silverleaf Academy is $1500 a year. This includes the costs of tuition, books, uniforms, and school supplies as well as boarding, meals, and transportation.
mamas at school
Hawega Foundation employs two of the Datooga mamas to stay at the school on a rotating basis. Their role is to look after the girls and help them maintain their culture, language and traditions. Not only does this provide income for the community, the sponsored parents feel secure that the girls are safe and taken care of while away from the village.
Your support can change the lives of girls in the Datooga tribe.
Join us in our mission to end the practice of FGM and empower
the next generation of leaders, educators, and advocates.
With your help we can provide educational sponsorships, giving girls the opportunity to attend and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
