Silverleaf's Recent Visit to the Datooga Village
On August 8th, Silverleaf Academy's Student Experience Department took the Silverleaf class — including our Hawega girls — on a special trip to the Datooga Village, a place rich with tradition and meaning.
From learning time-honored hunting practices to creating beaded jewelry alongside local artisans, and strolling through the village on a guided tour, the day was filled with moments of connection, pride, and cultural celebration. Experiences like these deepen the students' understanding of their heritage — and they’re only possible because of your support.
The Itinerary at a Glance
Over two unforgettable days, the Silverleaf students immersed themselves in the traditions and daily life of the Datooga and Hadzabe communities.
Day One: The visit began with a warm welcome and a vibrant traditional dance performance, followed by a beadwork workshop and a captivating storytelling session led by a local guide. While the group couldn't attend the full blacksmith demonstration, they enjoyed learning about the craft’s history and significance. The day ended with a serene walk along the shores of Lake Eyasi, where the students watched the sun sink below the horizon — a moment of reflection and awe.
Day Two: The following morning, the students traveled to the Hadzabe area, where they learned about the community’s traditional hunting techniques and deep respect for the natural environment. This hands-on cultural exchange left a lasting impression, enriching both their education and their connection to their roots.
